Barnes Cosmic Navigators

Home | Meet Your Teacher | Class Bulletin Board

Welcome to my class!

Greetings Cosmic Navigators, my name is Mrs. Barnes and I am your third grade teacher this year. Our first class mission is to explore creative ways to write and read interesting literature.

Writing is a wonderful way to express what you feel and see around you. Reading is an excellent way to take a trip into the ' Literary Galaxy'. Writing and reading go hand-in-hand.

Our second mission is to use our 'Vocabulary Busters' and 'Grammar Shields' to help communicate with our friends in the 'Literary Galaxy'.  So we will be exploring new vocabulary words and revisiting words of  old.  Our new arsenal of vocabulary words coupled with our old sight words will prepare you for your space travel into the 'Literary Galaxy'.  We will also be learning about grammar and sentence structure, so we can build up our 'Grammar Shields'.

Our Third mission is to explore exciting ways to take what we learn in math and use them here on earth. We have to navigate through the different exciting and challenging  'Math Terrain' to find solutions to our math problems.  We will build our math vehicle by using math concepts we have learned in our previous school adventures.

We cannot forget our past explorers in history.  So, suit up navigators because we going to learn from our explorers in the history books. Who knows, we may make some discoveries of our own.

We will be touching down on planet "Tech & Expressions" where we will learn how to use 21st century technology to strengthen our learning skills.  I will be helping you throughout the school year with understanding computer terminology through various activities.

We will also be sampling art and music from navigators of today and from lightyears ago. We will be learning how to keep our bodies in great shape for our challenging space travels. We will be helped in these categories by our earthly friends and teachers in music, art, and physical education.

Buckle up young navigators and prepare for an adventure of a lifetime!!  Don't worry, your parents and I will be at the control center giving you guidance and cheering you on!!

In the News: Global Warming

Okay cosmic navigators, what have you found out about global warming this week in the newspaper.  Remember, you must include an article clipping that should not cover more than one page of you composition book.

Find one interesting fact you have discovered in the article. On the back of this page, write two to three sentences on why you found this fact to be interesting. Write two to three sentences on what you already know about the topic.  Write two to three sentences on what you have learned in this article. And finally, write two to three sentences on what you would like to learn about this topic.  We will share our findings and writing this friday.
